Week 38 of 2024 from Thread Head

This week was all about mini quilts.

I finished two.
The clamshell one was cut using a GO! die.
'Present me' was so thankful that 'past me' had written a tutorial on how to sew the clamshells!
It is about 10"x16".
Ginger Snap needed a little placemat,
To match Miss Maggie's (the original one from the tutorial).
The next one was made using some leftover 3" blocks and scraps.
It is about 11"x13".
I made it for a little cabinet.

Works in Progress -

Cooler temperatures the past two days.
Weaving with new colours this week.

Curiosity and the Cat from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Well. I have quite a tale to tell you this morning. Before I get started, however, let me just say that Sadie is fine. As you read this story, know that it has a happy ending.

In preparation for our trip, we always put some Advantage on the kitties. We don't want an infestation of fleas in the RV. We don't use Advantage more than about twice per year, and it's usually just prior to a trip. For whatever reason, we've never had a serious problem with fleas on our kitties...probably ...

Suddenly September from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty happy to have reached the month when Fall starts. We've had a good summer here with just a few hot days. We've been delighted by a nice soaking rain from yesterday. It rained most of the day, and by the time we went to bed, we had a half-inch accumulation. Many of you have suffered through brutal heat, and so I feel fairly certain you're going to be happy to see the end of summer. And for those of you in the ...

Tiny Sewing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We've had some real rain here overnight. There is actually water puddling on the patio. That will go a long way toward greening up the field. And we future travelers can leave home feeling a little better about the fire danger while we're away.

My first stop yesterday morning was to check on the Bumble Rumble dahlia, and I'm happy to say it finally opened. It sure took its sweet time.

It's one of my favorite dahlias. I find myself wishing there were more, although we really only have space for four ...

Just a Little Sewing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It rained yesterday. It was so good to get a little moisture onto our parched field. We keep the field watered up near the house...for fire protection. The rest of the field is too much to water, and so by summer's end, it's crisply dry and brown. The first rain can work miracles to green it up quickly.

My haircut appointment was early (for me), and so not much happened on the home front until I got back. I had a short grocery list, but I told myself I could skip it if ...

Tomato Terminator from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. You probably didn't expect to hear from me today. I'm happy to say the pasta sauce is finished!!!

My yield from 45 lbs. of tomatoes was 14 quarts. I was telling Mike this morning that it's a shame I didn't have one more jar. I could have set up pasta sauce bowling pins, and we could have had a game!

Smitty helped by staying out from under my feet.

No one is any more surprised than I am that I was able to finish it all in one day. It came down ...

Tackling Tomatoes Today from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! Things are just about to get crazy here at the Three Cats Ranch. Not that they aren't always crazy, but you know...insane. The next several days will be spent canning tomatoes, either as pasta sauce, or as plain old tomatoes. It's a big job, and I'm dreading it. When it's done though...that feeling of satisfaction and the gratification of having quarts of pasta sauce on the pantry shelves is worth all the work. If it ever stops being worth it, I'll stop doing it. So far, so good.

Take ...

Project Planning from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's another hazy day today, and expected to get fairly warm. We ran our A/C yesterday, but we were able to turn it off and open the windows when we went to bed last night. I'm hopeful it won't get as hot as it was earlier in the month.

There was a lot on yesterday's to-do list. Fortunately, most of it was finished up with my morning running around town. I'd missed my slow-stitching before leaving home, and so I started there after lunch, filling my hoop and moving to ...

Another Warm One from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We're expecting another hot day today, but then cooling fairly quickly overnight. I'll be happy to turn off the A/C, if we can. I was out early yesterday to water the flower pots and harvest vegetables. While I was out, I found Sadie sleeping in the house on her catio.

Back inside, I went to work on my slow stitching. I finished off the next "book spine" for the Shop Hop quilt

And then I took the first stitches on the Chat to Friends block for The Story of My Day. These are ...

Catching Up from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! We have some catching up to do. Since yesterday's post was the reveal post for August's art quilt, I have two days worth of activities for you today. You might want to fill your coffee cup, and then we'll get started. Go ahead. I'll wait.

My morning slow-stitching had me filling up the first hoop on the Fall Harvest piece.

It's a rather large piece embroidery-wise and then, of course, there is the little mini quilt to paper-piece for the middle.

So, I've decided to designate finishing this piece (minus ...

Flighted Fancy pattern from Flying Parrot Quilts

I’ve been wanting to do another paper pieced bird for a while, and this spring I finally sat down to work out a paper pieced bluebird. I figured everyone likes bluebirds—they’re bright and cheerful, and they have a reputation for being “family-oriented,” with early clutches sometimes staying around to help raise babies from later in the season.

Eastern Bluebird from the Flighted Fancy paper piecing quilt by Sylvia Schaefer/Flying Parrot Quilts | www.flyingparrotquilts.com

But after I finished the bluebird, I started thinking about the fact that, of course, this is mostly a bird found in the eastern United States, and those of you who live elsewhere might have a very different favorite backyard ...
